Ted creator Seth MacFarlane recently shared why a second season of the Peaco*ck series isn't guaranteed.
"I think we felt after Ted 2 that maybe the appetite for Ted in that forum was not quite as ravenous as it was after the first movie. So I don’t know, there would have to be a reason to do it," MacFarlane told TheWrap. "There has to be an audience for something like this. You don’t want to just keep rehashing the same character if no one’s watching. I guess there’s a lot of that today anyway, but it’s not really our first order of business, there really has to be an appetite."

Viewership aside, it seems that MacFarlane won't return to Ted unless there's a compelling enough reason to bring the foul-mouthed bear back for another season. However, not everyone involved with Ted feels that way as showrunners Paul Corrigan and Brad Walsh revealed to TheWrap that they already have ideas for future seasons. "We’re certainly open to it. I think there’s a ton more stories to explore. I mean, we have this teenage, going into early 20s young man that is going through all these experiences and also has his family around him," said Walsh. "We’ve told, what, seven stories so far? There’s plenty of room to explore and we’d love to explore it."
Corrigan added, "This season is the junior year of high school. You can easily see senior year of high school or the beginnings of college, or what that looks like if it is college or not. I think it’d be great to explore that."
What Is Ted About?
After a pair of live-action comedy films in the 2010s focusing on an adult John and Ted, the Peaco*ck series winds the clock back to 1993 when the pair are still living in Framingham, Massachusetts with John's parents. The prequel series follows 16-year-old John (Max Burkholder) and Ted (MacFarlane) as they engage in several experiences for the first time while navigating high school. The main cast also includes Alanna Ubach as Susan Bennett, Scott Grimes as Matty Bennett and Giorgia Whigham as Blaire Bennett.

Ted Was Almost a Children's Cartoon
While Ted has achieved major success as an R-rated franchise, MacFarlane first pitched Ted as a family-focused cartoon to Hanna-Barbera Productions in the 1990s. "There was a period during the Time Warner-Turner merger during which the company had no idea what to do with its creative staff," MacFarlane explained. "They didn't want to fire us all because they wouldn't have any artists or writers when they did get underway again. So, all we had to do was pitch an animated show once a week to our bosses. Ted was originally one of these ideas." When the time came for MacFarlane to develop his first movie, he remembered his old Ted pitch and redeveloped it into an R-rated comedy.
All seven episodes of Ted Season 1 are streaming on Peaco*ck.
