Ted Season 2 Gets Exciting Update From Star Scott Grimes (2024)

Ted Season 2 is moving into production quicker than fans may have expected. Scott Grimes, who stars in the prequel series as Matt Bennett, recently revealed that the cast and crew have already reconvened for the first table read of Season 2.

In a post on Instagram, Grimes announced that the first readthrough of Ted Season 2 had happened. "I may or may not be half naked in the first episode. Please watch anyway," his caption added. The post also included several pictures of the venue where the table read took place, as well as the cast and crew's personal table cards, which feature the titular stuffed bear in the bottom right corner. Seth MacFarlane's production company, Fuzzy Door Productions, also shared on Instagram that "#tedSeason2begins" with a video of the cast reuniting, as well as an image of the Season 2 premiere script (with Ted's paw covering the episode's title and director/writer credits).

Ted was renewed for a second season in May 2024. The seven-episode first season, which was released in its entirety on Jan. 11, 2024, follows 16-year-old John (Max Burkholder) and Ted (MacFarlane) as they engage in several experiences for the first time while navigating high school in the early 1990s. The series is a prequel to MacFarlane's Ted comedy movies, which were released in the 2010s and focused on an adult John (Mark Wahlberg) and Ted. Alanna Ubach as Susan Bennett and Giorgia Whigham as Blaire Bennett round out Ted's main cast.

What Could Ted Season 2 Be About?

While Season 2 plot details remain under wraps, showrunners Paul Corrigan and Brad Walsh shared back in January that they already have ideas for future seasons, which include taking John and Ted beyond their high school days. "We’re certainly open to it. I think there’s a ton more stories to explore. I mean, we have this teenage, going into early 20s young man that is going through all these experiences and also has his family around him," said Walsh. "We’ve told, what, seven stories so far? There’s plenty of room to explore and we’d love to explore it."

Corrigan added, "This season is the junior year of high school. You can easily see senior year of high school or the beginnings of college, or what that looks like if it is college or not. I think it’d be great to explore that.

Ted Is Peaco*ck's Most-Watched Original Title Ever

Ted's renewal, and Peaco*ck rushing it back into production, shouldn't come as too much of a surprise as the prequel series was the most-watched original title ever released on the streamer. It was also the most-streamed comedy in the U.S. for about two months after premiering. However, with the star of the series being a CG bear, Ted will have a lot of post-production work to complete, which likely explains why the series is quickly moving ahead with its sophom*ore season. Ted Season 1 was filmed from August to November 2022 but wasn't released until just over a year later. If that same time frame applies to Season 2, it's possible that fans won't see John and Ted return to the small screen until late 2025/early 2026.

The first season of Ted is available to stream on Peaco*ck. A release window for the second season has not been announced yet.
